Screenshot of tweet from John Camden. It shows his profile name: Johncamden061583 and was posted on June 22, 2020 to 147 views. The tweet reads: "Got some new ink today!!!" Followed by five American flag emojis. Below it is a photo of his arm, with a tattoo of the Gadsden flag, showing a snake separated into 7 pieces with letters floating above them, the number 1776 on the right, and obscured letters underneath. You can read the word 'DIE'. On the top right you see a chunk of blue.
Camden has the snake from the Gadsden flag tattooed on his arm. “Some people will still say this flag’s revolutionary origin is not racist. But it is important to look at the context — a rally of white people protesting the erosion of good ol’ American values, of the white nuclear family, of the invasion of the United States by immigrants choosing this specific flag to spread their message means something. These people utilizing one of the earliest symbols of American identity to represent themselves and their racist aims is intentional. They are calling back an old America. That is what the flag means, and that is why it is hateful. Not only has its meaning been appropriated by racists to advance their agendas, but the flag’s original context in itself represents an America that held Black people in bondage, and committed genocide against Indigenous peoples.” From a student paper at Boston University “Canceled: The Gadsden flag, and our campus” October 28, 2020 by Bini Ollivier-Yamin

Camden does the OK symbol, appropriated by racists, while wearing a Christian shirt. Camden flirts with obscure aspects of Christianity. In an opinion piece after the Capitol riot for the Religious News Service,  Robert Jones, author of “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity” wrote

If we are to understand the events of yesterday, and the challenges ahead for us as a nation, we must take these symbols and this rhetoric seriously, not in isolation, but in combination and conversation with each other. This seditious mob was motivated not just by loyalty to Trump, but by an unholy amalgamation of white supremacy and Christianity that has plagued our nation since its inception and is still with us today. As I show in my book “White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity,” there remains a disturbingly strong link between holding racist attitudes and identifying as a white Christian.

Firm 22 – from the Southern Poverty Law Center: “Racist skinheads form a particularly violent element of the white supremacist movement and have often been referred to as the “shock troops” of the hoped-for revolution. The classic skinhead look is a shaved head, black Doc Martens boots, jeans with suspenders and an array of typically racist tattoos.”
